* A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Mason, Lake & Oceana Counties from 7am this morning to 4pm Saturday afternoon. 3-6″ will be possible with isolated higher amounts.
* A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Newaygo County from 7am this morning to 7pm Friday. 2-4″ will be possible by this evening.
** A Wind Chill Advisory starts tonight at 11pm to Noon Saturday for Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Montmorency, Alpena and Alcona Counties. Wind chills could fall into the lower to mid 20s below zero tonight and into tomorrow morning.
This morning we have colder air starting to spill into Northern Michigan from the North and bursts of heavy snow starting to impact the Eastern U.P. Heavy snow at times will start to move into the Lower Peninsula throughout the morning making for some tough morning commutes. Overall things are cold, breezy and snowy! Expect these conditions to get worse as the day moves on. Roads could be slick, visibilities could be greatly reduced and temperatures will fall throughout the day. Today is going to be a cold, windy and snowy day across Northern Michigan with highs ranging from 5 to 21 degrees. Winds will be out of the Northwest/West at 12-25mph and wind chills will be well below zero! Expect heavy snow at times to slow down travel for areas throughout the day. Tonight is going to bring a bit more snow and overnight lows will range from -20 to 4 degrees! Mix these temperatures with gusty North/Northwest winds and some wind chill could push -30 degrees in spots overnight! Lake effect snow will also continue to fall and blow around Northern Michigan as we head into Saturday.
Your weekend is going to start with the coldest air of the season as highs will only range from -2 to 13 degrees! Wind chill will be bitterly cold and some snow will continue to fall throughout the day. By Sunday things are looking quiet to start but clouds move in for the afternoon and evening with a chance for a flurry later in the day. Highs are going to be in the low teens to low 20s. More snow for Monday but highs will be much warmer with mid 20s to low 30s. Tuesday is looking cloudy with a chance for some light snow. Highs are going to range from the mid 20s to low 30s. Some pesky lake effect hangs around for Wednesday with highs in the mid teens to mid 20s but snow will turn isolated for Thursday with highs in the low 20s to low 30s. Overall bundle up and stay warm this weekend as relief from the cold is on the way by early next week.
