Greetings Sledders,
First of all I feel for everyone who had to endure the lousy trail conditions last weekend but our hands were tied because we cannot groom wet snow. It bridges between the cutting edges and will not flow under the pans on our drags. The snow simply accumulates, balls up and overflows onto the trail as groomer turds. Groomer turds are okay when they are soft but become a hazard when frozen. Trust me when I tell you that it’s been no walk in the park grooming after three days of heavy weekend traffic.
We were able to get back to grooming business yesterday morning and all of the trails have been hit twice and they came out better than I thought they would.
Trail #7 South of M-72 and from here to Frederic has more snirt that I would like to see but that is pretty much par for the course as both of those segments are riddled with corners. With above freezing temps, light rain, heavy traffic and no grooming and no new snow the snirtty condition comes as no surprise. The rest of the trails are in good shape. A couple of more passes with the groomers and the remnants of the moguls should be gone.
I’m calling the trails fair to good with loose snow over packed snow as the base. I never assign a numerical value to the description of the base. More on that in the next report.
